Chicago 2009 Marathon

Hey Everyone,

Thanks first of all for taking the time to read this and consider supporting this effort once again. These are tough times and I know many of you already support numerous charities.

As you can see, we have set up a little different this year. There will be no particular categories for the various pledge amounts. I am simply asking you to consider pledging the amount you are comfortable with.

I have no individual goal this year other than to finish in less than four hours. I am willing to commit to the following. You all know me well enough that I have to have some goal, some challenge to beat. Here it is: If I don’t finish in less than four hours or fail to complete it for ANY reason at all I will agree to match all funds raised. Remember, a lot can happen out there! The race could be cancelled again due to heat, personal injury, accidents, or the worst, no one on the course to offer me a beer while I’m running!

Most of you know about the two charities. It’s a little different this year with Ace Tech. Instead of the money going directly to them I am asking you to pledge to Road Builder Charities, which will distribute the money to Ace Tech for scholarships. Road Builder Charities is a brand new endeavor. There is a separate board that will oversee this 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. The board includes Anne Cotter, Mike Curran, Charlie Gallagher, Tod Faerber, Woodie Griffin and yes, myself. Don’t worry though, even if I wanted to fund an organization like “Wisconsin Association of State Testing Engineering Disciplines (W.A.S.T.E.D.) I only have one vote; all other upstanding pillars of our industry would oversee a more worthy charity.

Of course you can find out more about Road Builder Charities by clicking here.

The other charity remains exactly the same. It’s ECFA. There’s a link to a testimonial from one of the pregnancy support counselors that gives you insight into where you’re money goes.

On a personal note, most of you know this is the organization that Jane and I adopted our son Jake through. There is no other organization I am part of that allows me to see how God changes lives one at a time. The staff at ECFA is committed to taking care of God’s children. I truly cannot begin to imagine our life without the courageous young woman’s decision twelve years ago. It’s our greatest testimonial to God’s grace and plan for our lives.

The decision to support either or both is of course up to you. I’m very thankful just to be able to count on you as friends that consider this.
